But to be that close to Russel in pace is something else. Russel had no pressure from behind and no one near him in front. Antonelli was right in the mid field pack, with traffic, far worse spray and increased tire strain from having to perform over takes. I’m sure this data isn’t completely perfect, but if Antonelli can even come close to that in the dry then he really might be the real deal.”

“People have called it luck, but playing it safe around P3-P4 and waiting for the front runners to take each other out has been a very effective strategy for this era of Mercedes, where they just don’t have the pace to win outright most weekends. Russell has scooped up two podiums and a win this way and every time he’s been pretty open about it being the ideal scenerio for them.”
